Assistance Available for Members Impacted by Hurricane Alex
During a natural disaster, you never know where you may end up. We at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) understand that many of our members may be displaced as a result of the current severe weather in south Texas.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration Tuesday, allowing the state to pre-deploy resources to south Texas. Emergency ambulance and boats are on standby in towns northwest of the disaster area.
President Barack Obama also issued a federal emergency declaration for those counties, allowing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide assistance for debris removal and storm-related preparations.
The state of disaster declaration is for 19 counties along the Texas Coast: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Webb, Willacy, and Zapata beginning June 27, 2010, and continuing indefinitely.
BCBSTX is prepared to assist members living in those counties, as well as members who may be traveling in the area, who have needs concerning access to care and prescription medications. Members seeking medical attention or prescription refills will need a member ID number and a photo ID in order to receive assistance. If you do not have a member ID card, need help finding care or have coverage questions, you can call 800-521-2227 and our customer service representatives will assist you.
