General Use - Mobile Web

Blue Access Mobile web Blue Access Mobile web is a mobile-optimized website that gives you quick and secure access to our most in-demand information and tools on the go. You can use any web-enabled mobile device - including mobile phones and smartphones - to connect to our mobile site.

Simply type "bcbstx.com" in your mobile phone's web browser. You will automatically be redirected to the mobile site.

No. Anyone with a mobile device can use our public site tools such as Find a Doctor and Shop for Insurance. However, you must be a member registered for BAM to log in to the secure member site. If you are a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) member, but have not signed up for BAM, you can do so from your computer online or from your mobile device.

When you visit bcbstx.com from a computer, you see our full suite of information and tools. When you visit bcbstx.com from your mobile phone, you only see our most in-demand tools. We know that members typically have a specific need when using their mobile phone, such as finding a doctor, viewing ID card information, or checking claims status, so we've made it easier to do so.

Yes. Select the link "View full site" at the bottom of Blue Access Mobile web. Although the full website is not optimized for a mobile phone, it does provide you access to all of our information and tools.

Yes. There is no charge to use Blue Access Mobile web. However, it is always best to contact your wireless service provider to see if they charge any connectivity or internet usage fees.

My Care Profile: See your personalized health information including medical conditions, hospitalizations, doctors' visits, and medications among other relevant health information.

Diabetes Basic Care Management: View diabetes facts and nutritional tips.

Maternity Basic Care Management: View maternity information on what to expect, screenings, vaccinations, and access a contraction timer. Note: Only available to those enrolled in the Special Beginnings® maternity program.

Obesity: View care management information relevant to obesity specifically on its causes, how it's treated, and preventing childhood obesity.

Fitness: Look at different ways you can incorporate exercise into your daily routine and how you can customize a workout for our needs.

Metabolic Syndrome: View metabolic syndrome health information particularly around its causes, how it can be managed, and what can happen if it is mismanaged.

Nutrition: Access tools and articles around Body Mass Index (BMI), healthy eating habits, reading nutritional labels, and overall dietary guidelines.

Mobile BlueExtras: Access HCSC's BlueExtras coupon programs for Complimentary Alternative Medicine and Fitness & Weight Management.

Claim Status Management: View claims by patient name, date or status.

ID Card Management: View coverage effective date, ID number(s) and more.

Coverage Management: View the health care plan deductible, co-insurance per service (physician, specialist, etc.), out-of-pocket maximum and more.

User Profile: Manage your mobile phone number, opt-in to text message offerings, and view a list of available text keywords.

General Use - Text Messaging

Blue Access Mobile text messaging allows members to opt-in to receive text alerts and request on demand information via text keywords.

  • Claim Status Notification — Receive notifications when claims are processed. Note: Only subscribers are able to opt-in for claim status notification
  • ID Card Information — Request personal ID card information (ID number, medical group number, and coverage effective date) via text message using the keyword "ID"
  • Diabetes Rx Drug Reminder — Receive reminders to take medication and check blood sugar. Choose the frequency and time of day for reminders (9 a.m., 12 p.m. or 7 p.m.)
  • Diabetes Diet Tips — Receive weekly diet management tips geared towards stabilizing insulin levels. Note: messages will be sent on Sunday at approximately 11a.m. CST

To opt-in for texting features, you must be registered for Blue Access for MembersSM (BAM) and elect to participate through your BAM User Profile (within Mobile Preferences) or during BAM registration.

During BAM Registration — You can register for BAM from your mobile phone or desktop. During the registration process, simply enter your mobile phone number and check the appropriate box to opt-in to receive claim status notifications via text message. To participate in other text message offerings, go to your User Profile and then the Mobile Preferences page.

Once you've completed your BAM registration, a text message will be sent to the mobile phone number you entered requesting that you to reply with the subscriber's five-digit ZIP code. For your security, your enrollment in the text messaging program will not be complete until you respond with the subscriber's ZIP code. If you do not respond with the subscriberÕs 5-digit ZIP code within 7 days, a one-time reminder will be sent to you. Once you successfully submit the subscriber's ZIP code, you will receive a confirmation via text message and your mobile phone number will show as Verified in your mobile preferences.

From within User Profile (Setting Mobile Preferences) — Within your BAM User Profile's Mobile Preferences page, you can manage your mobile phone number, opt-in to text message offerings, and view a list of available text keywords.

Your mobile phone number will show as Unverified until you successfully submit the subscriber's 5-digit ZIP code. Only when your mobile phone number shows as Verified are you fully able to partake in text message offerings.

Manage your mobile number: To change your mobile phone number, simply enter your new number and it will be marked as Unverified until you resubmit the subscriber's 5-digit ZIP code.

Opt-in: You will be able to opt-in to additional text message offerings once your phone number has been Verified. Once verified, you can text "ID" to BCBSTX (222789) to receive ID card information via text message. For assistance with the program via your mobile phone, text the keywords "STOP" to end all messaging or "HELP" to receive information on where to get your questions answered to BCBSTX (222789).

When your mobile phone number shows as Unverified, this means that you are not yet fully registered. To complete your registration, simply reply to the text message requesting the subscriber's 5-digit ZIP code.

Once you have successfully texted Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) with the plan subscriber's 5-digit ZIP code, your mobile phone number will show as Verified.

To deactivate or change your mobile phone number, go to your Mobile Preferences within your User Profile in BAM and either delete your number or enter a new number.

Once you have entered a new mobile number, it will show as Unverified and you will need to reply with the subscriber's 5-digit ZIP code.

To cancel all text messaging, respond to any Blue Access Mobile text message with ÒSTOP", or text "STOP" to BCBSTX (222789).

General Use - Mobile Applications

Provider Finder is a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) integrated application that you can download for free to quickly and easily locate in-network doctors and hospitals.

With the Provider Finder App, you can find a network doctor or hospital by name or specialty, or find the nearest urgent care facility by using your mobile phone's GPS location or inputting a zip code.

Current and prospective members will need to search for BCBSTX in the iPhone App Store or Android Market to download the free App to your smartphone.

Searching by keywords provider, locator, doctor, health, blue, cross, shield, locate, find a doctor, and insurance will also return the Provider Finder App.

No. Both members and non-members are able to download the App and use its features.

The App offers an option to use your mobile phone's GPS to find the nearest doctor, hospital or urgent care facility.

Currently, the Provider Finder® App is available for download on Android phones and the iPhone.

Security

If you change mobile phone numbers, you should update your mobile phone number on your BAM mobile preferences page, and it is a good idea to change your BAM password.

No. For your safety and security, you must log in using your Blue Access for MembersSM (BAM) User Name and Password each time you visit the site.

If your phone is lost or stolen, call your wireless network provider right away and ask them to deactivate the device.

No. Personal information stored on your mobile device that is not password protected is not secure. Make sure you know how to lock your mobile phone with a password.

Troubleshooting - Log In Questions

You will need to register for BAM and create a username and password. You can register for BAM from your mobile device or from a computer.

No, you can use your existing Blue Access for MembersSM (BAM) username and password.

You will need to create a user name and password online. However, we will have the ability to register for Blue Access for Members through your mobile phone soon.

From the Blue Access Mobile web site under Login to Blue Access for Members, you can click ÔForgot User Name?Õ or ÔForgot PasswordÕ to have your username emailed to you or to change your password.

Troubleshooting - Claim Status Questions

Historical claims are only available for the past 18 months.

Currently, the mobile site only displays medical claims. Dental and Rx Drug claims will be made available in the future.

The "My Portion" is based on your current health care benefits plan and the claim submitted. You may have already paid the physician but we put the information there to help our members verify and understand their responsibility.

Troubleshooting - Wellness (Diabetes / Special Beginnings® Maternity Program) Questions

Special Beginnings is a maternity program you must sign up for separately through your online BAM account. After registering for Special Beginnings, you will be able to access the information through your mobile phone.

Currently, it is separate. We are working toward integrating these soon.

Troubleshooting - ID Card Questions

Yes. However, the doctor may need to verify the information in order to submit the claim correctly.
